F-Secure Offers Tips To Keep XP Safe In Its 2013 Threat Report

The popular digital security provider company F-Secure has released its threat report for the second-half of year 2013. On this report, it lists and explains the threat landscape and the latest trends in malware, which cyber criminals are using to attack. Along with all these, it also mentioned about Microsoft’s decision of stopping to offer Windows XP security patches after April 8 2014. In this particular section it offers some useful tips for Windows users who are not planning to upgrade their Windows XP to new Windows versions.

F-Secure say that “All is not lost. Patching XP is not the first line of defense. Or it really shouldn’t be, folks that continue to use XP at home can do so with some reasonable amount of safety, for a while, but they absolutely need to review their internet (particularly web browsing) and computing habits.”

Though the XP security support is going to end on April 8 2014, but it’s not the end of the world. There are multiple things that Windows XP users can do to keep their PCs protected and safe. In the F-Secure’s threat report, it lists a series of handy and necessary steps that XP users should take. These include: installing Microsoft’s final security update for XP; as the foremost step. After that, stop using Internet Explorer as the web browser, keep Microsoft Office fully patched, stay connected to NAT router, and of-course upgrade to a newer version of Windows in the near future and, install powerful antivirus software like F-Secure.
